FAQs
Do you plug and mask any areas that should not be blasted or painted. I.e Gasket faces bearing faces & threads ? Yes unlike standard industrial blasters we have over 25 years experience in the motorcycle industry, this gives us the knowledge to know what the parts are and how they work meaning your parts are safe with us.
I have had parts damaged by blasting leaving a very course finish and areas blasted that shouldn't be. Is your blasting service different ? This is usually down to taking parts for blasting to industrial blasters that use high pressure and heavy media. Here at Resto refinishing we always use the finest media and lowest pressure that gets the job done. Due to our vast experience in motorcycle repair and restoration we know what to blast and what not to blast so all delicate / machined areas are plugged or masked when needed
I have some steel parts that need blasting. Would you recommend vapour blasting or media blasting ? For steel parts we would recommend media blasting. Usually steel parts are going to be painted and the media blasting gives a better profile for paint adhesion. However vapour blasting can still be a good choice for some steel / cast internal engine components that will not be painted. We will always advise on the best option for your parts when quoting.
What type of paint do you use ? We usually start the process using a zinc rich 2k epoxy primer for added corrosion resistance followed by 2k high build primer to smooth out any minor imperfections. The colour is usually solvent basecoat followed up with 2k clear giving a smooth glossy and fuel resistant finish.
