Media Blasting Information

Media blasting (also known as sandblasting, grit blasting, Shot blasting) is a surface treatment using compressed air to propel abrasive media (like sand, glass beads, or plastic) at high speed to clean, strip, or texture a surface, removing rust, paint, or contaminants for restoration & coating preparation. Different media types allow for gentle cleaning (e.g., walnut shells) or aggressive stripping (e.g., garnet), making it versatile for industries like automotive, construction, and manufacturing.

  How it works

  • Propulsion: Compressed air shoots abrasive particles (the "media") through a nozzle.

  • Impact: The media strikes the surface at high velocity, scouring away unwanted material.

  • Result: The surface is left clean, textured, or stripped, ready for further treatment or finishing.

  Common uses

  • Preparaton: Creating a profile for new coatings, paint, or bonding to adhere properly.

  • Restoration: Restoring original materials on items like vehicles, buildings, or machinery.

  • Finishing: Texturing or polishing surfaces for aesthetic or functional purposes.

  Types of media

  • Hard Media: Sand, aluminum oxide, garnet (for tough coatings).

  • Soft Media: Walnut shells, corn cob, soda (for delicate surfaces).

  • Specialty: Glass beads, plastic beads, steel shot (for specific finishes)

  Key benefit

  • It provides a superior surface profile for new coatings, ensuring durability and longevity, by creating a clean, slightly roughened surface for maximum adhesion.
